Cleaning Mode
December 19, 2007
The whole library is in total cleaning mode. They are planning on implementing a learning commons, which will require space and rearrangement. The good part of this is being forced to reconsider some things stashed in the corners, that probably should have been tossed, not stashed in the first place. Questions:
- Is there any need to keep shelf list cards for items that are cataloged online? None that I can see.
- Is there any need to keep signs made for displays that were only up for one month? Would we ever be conducting research on what displays were done in the library? I am doubtful.
- Floppy disks that can to longer be read – when the culture here has been to print out and file everything that was important? No
- Software and manuals for programs that will not run on any computer existing in the library? I think not.
- Circulation slips for everything that was ever pulled from archives or special collections? I don’t mean by item, just piles. Good-bye.
I may be back with additions to the list as I poke the corners.
