First success

I finished my first record with the Archivists Toolkit yesterday. I’m pretty happy with the way it works, though I am still finding my way around. There are many layers.
I started with something simple, then tried both the Export EAD and Export MARC, to see how it turned out. I went back and changed where I put the description when I saw the MARC output.
I checked with Tech Services to see if I could load a MARC .xml directly into Voyager. No luck, but it was easy to cut and paste into the MARC record.
Based on my first success, I’m ready to charge ahead.

Is your database networked, or are you running AT on your local machine?

I’m running AT on my local machine right now. But I’m thinking of setting it up on the network so the head of Tech Services and perhaps can also have access.
If you are using AT I’d like to hear more about you experience. I have neoarch on RRS so I’ll watch there.

The reason I asked is that I have been trying to set up AT on a network. I’ve had nothing but problems making the connection from a client (on a Windows machine) to the database (on a Linux server). I am hopeful, though.

I’ve been lurking on your site for a while now. I’m an archivist at the University of Cape Town, involved in digitisation and anything to do with IT!
I’ve been trying to install the mysql database server today, in order to use the toolkit, but with little success. According to the manual, I’m supposed to open the setup.exe file in the installation folder, but I can’t find it! Any ideas on where it’s hidden?
Thanks for your helpful site – I’m enjoying reading about your experiences in your archive. I’ve especially benefitted from your EAD stories, as we’re just starting out with encoding finding aids.

I ended up downloading from the NY mirror. I’m doing it again to follow the path. It’s downloading mysql-5.0.27-win32.zip. (I use Firefox as my browser and it opens a window telling me the progress. When is finished it tried to open a DivX Player which I don’t have so I just closed it.) Now I just have to click open from the Firefox download window. It opens a window where the only program is Setup.
I see it put the original file in a temp folder under documents and setting. You might try doing a search on file name you downloaded. I had to download it again to find the name.
