I just learned from my daughter that Photoshop has an “actions” feature that would let us automate the procedure of saving our tiff files to jpeg and then to jpeg thumbnails. I got all excited because this could certainly save student worker, Jessica Julius’ sanity. She is the only person, that I
trust with this job.
Of course when checking it out I discovered that since we are using Photoshop Elements, that came with the scanner, we can’t do it. It doesn’t include this feature. So now I’m lobbying for an upgrade.
Anyone out there have experience with this that they
would like to share?

Our new electronic services librarian, Brian McDonald succeeded it putting Archivist’s Toolkit on the archives server for me today. I just had it on my local desktop. The trick was finding the data on the desktop to move it to the server. Yeah Brian!!
He then setup the clients on my desktop and the student
worker computer. Before noon my wonderful student
Tiffany Bennett was inputting folder information for me.
I’m going to have her write up a procedure sheet for me the
next time she comes in because she is great at that type of thing.
What a great day it has been!

I’m just back from SAA in Chicago. Things were learned, fun was had, food was eaten. 🙂
I’ll be filling you in on some ideas I picked up, but for now
I just want to share one fun experience. While waiting in
line for food at the exhibits I was approached by Betsy
Parkin Pittman, the University Archivist of the
U of Connecticut. She introduced herself as William Smith
1982,thanked me for the Archives webpage and shook my
hand. She also said when she gives to the college she always
desingnates the money to come to archives. I’m going to
have to track down that money. 🙂
